Why I LOVE Autumn in Atlanta!
I have always liked autumn or fall since I was a child. I suppose because my
birthday is on August 20 and that is the prelude to the shift from the summer
season. When I moved to Atlanta during the height of Autumn I fell in LOVE with
fall as we call it down south. I love everything about it…. The changes in weather,
the Starbucks hot caramel apple cider, the colors — it’s all so wondrous to me.
Each year it is consistent, but each year that I live it’s like I’m experiencing it for
the first time. I’ve committed for the past two years to living consciously and
intentionally in the present moment, so it is important to me to acknowledge this
year’s colors, majesty and beauty. When I am speaking or training on the topic,
The Art of Inclusion®, what I am really talking about is gratitude. I am grateful to
see another fall season. I love fall…especially in Atlanta.
10 Reasons to Love Fall in Atlanta
1. I love the seasonal decorations. My neighbors decorate their homes for
Halloween like it’s Christmas. I am grateful to live in a neighborhood
where the children and the dogs go trick or treating. I love seeing parents,
kids and canines all dressed up. I laugh out loud and pass out candy (well, I
eat a few miniatures snickers too). I don’t do monsters, scary, or ghosts
but I do enjoy seeing my neighbors smile at one another.
2. I love the weather in Atlanta. The weather (in many places) is changing
and it is divine in Atlanta. Fall here is like my personal utopia. Our
summers are hot and humid, the springtime is lovely with blooms full of
pollen, and the winter can be a combination of three seasons. Fall is just
perfect. Often when I am on a walk with my canine kid, D’or, I’m in awe
that the weather is so perfect.
3. I love fresh air. I can turn off the air conditioner most days. I can open the
windows. I love Georgia Power’s reliability as my electric utility provider
but I am grateful when my bill drops back to manageable once the AC is
not running day and night.
4. I love colors and the fall fashions, NYFW, Nordstrom’s fall sale, Atlanta
Style. I love perusing the magazines and online style looks. It is quite an
accomplishment to find a new outfit in the latest colors and save it for just
the right occasion. The fall colors of orange, maroon, khaki all look great
against my brown toned skin. What’s not to love?
5. I love seeing the kids head back to school, although mine have finished, I
celebrate with the Moms that send the little ones off to learn. I am
inspired just seeing the fresh-faced little ones in their crisp school
uniforms headed to school. I love the sounds of the band practicing at the
school in my neighborhood. I am transported to my own lovely memories
of my days as a high stepping majorette. There is warmth in the hue of the
autumn skies and although I am not a big football fan, I love the team
spirit and the team rivalry. In Atlanta, football season is serious and there
ain’t no party like an Atlanta tailgate party. Go Falcons! Go Tech! Go
Dawgs! Sorry Alabama, this post all about Atlanta.
6. I love Starbucks’ Hot Caramel Apple Cider. Delicious doesn’t go deep
enough and you will have to go back for another one. They are seasonal
and only available in the fall and winter. And all of that waiting makes
them even more delicious. Don’t forget to add whipped cream on top. It’s
a love in a cup!
7. I love candles, and in the fall there’s nothing like the Bath & Body Works’
Pumpkin Pecan Waffle scented candles. I have so many favorite candles,
but this one is my one of my favorite for the fall.
8. I love apples. The fall is when I can readily find locally grown produce at
the East Atlanta Village or Grant Park farmers’ market. I can buy honey
crisp, ambrosia, jonagold, fuji or empire for reasonable prices and in great
quantity—all at their best when it’s fall. My favorite treat is at least one
caramel apple with pecans. There is also abundant supply of sweet
potatoes and squash. Nothing like a fresh apple-one for me and one
9. I love soup! tomato soup, sweet potato soup, mushroom soup, bone
broth or a yummy, fresh tortilla soup made in my Vitamix. I live for a cup
of hot homemade soup and a grilled cheese.
10. I love the atmosphere of change that is in the air. I love fall. Many people
think of the New Year as a time for change, a time to make resolutions,
I’ve always thought of fall as a great time to tidy up and change things
around. This is my first blog post and I will forever love fall in Atlanta, it
will be the anniversary that we’ll celebrate in the fall. There’s
nothing like making a gratitude list to connect you back to purpose.
By now you know that I LOVE fall. As much as I love this time of year, each
season holds something special and I will be intentional about enjoying every
moment. As I wrote this post, it morphed into a perfect way to tell you a
little about me. How do you celebrate the fabulousness of fall? If you’re
not in love with fall, what IS your favorite time of the year? What I know that I
know is that in every season there is something to celebrate. I trust you are in
health and I hold you in positive regard as you enjoy this blog post. Peace!
